This wonderful little poem was written by the late Wilhelmina H.J. Juurlink of Milford Station, Hants County, Nova Scotia. It was first printed in the 1998 June edition of the Upshore - Downshore magazine which was loaned to me by Hadley Burns, Truro. I then had it published in one of my books.

D – Day Remembered
By: the late Wilhelmina H. J. Juurlink, Milford Station
On June the sixth, nineteen hundred forty – four
It was the beginning of the end of the Second World War.
We in Holland, and many countries more,
We welcomed the Allies to our occupied shore.
Brave men, from far away they came.
They brought along the Liberation Flame.
To free us all from the wicked enemy
Some gave their life to enter eternity.
Let us be thankful and remember them
They were the country’s most precious gem.
To give your life so others will be free.
Yes, they sacrificed it all for you and me.
