Perspectives & Wisdom

At night I enjoy watching Youtube videos before going to sleep. I usually tend to watch videos that make me laugh so I can feel good at the end of the day. However, recently I have seemed to shift away from that, as I have become more drawn to videos where people give their takes on a story or situation, or I will watch video essays. I believe I feel so drawn to it because it includes me in a way, not through laughter, but through thought, and it opens my mind to new ideas and perspectives.
One of the most recent video essays I watched was on the different types of villains represented in movies. It separated them into different categories such as man vs. self, man vs. master, man vs. society, and man vs. social order. I was specifically drawn towards the last one because it represents villains who do not seem to make sense to the viewer. Someone who goes against common morality with no real, or predictable reason. There seems to be no sense of relatability for the viewer to latch onto or any sort of understanding. It differs from man vs. society in this sense. What is also interesting is that social order and morality differs across societies and the world; what makes sense to one community may confuse another. However what is common is that humanity searches for reason, there are reasons for things even if it may not make sense to someone else.
If you could not tell by now, I enjoy these types of videos because it fuels my mind. Not only am I experiencing new or different ideas, but I get to explore my own, and come up with my own view. Sometimes I may be amazed by new information, become open to something I never thought of, or find out someone also shares my ideas, or I may disagree, and then I have to use my own thought and reasoning to figure out as to why. This is why I particularly enjoy videos where people give their takes on a story/situation, because I get to hear their thoughts and reasoning, and form my own view, whether it aligns with theirs or combats it.
I understand that this may sound like an awful idea for bedtime, as the videos I watch are getting my brain going instead of winding it down. But to me it is similar to a movie. My mind works the same way; I absorb it and form my own thoughts and then conclusions, as do many others. Something can be viewed in many different ways. Which can be quite beautiful at times.
