With all the philosophy-related courses I am taking, sometimes I find myself craving for something different. I do have an interest in them for sure, however I also love writing, stories, and film. I took a film class in high school and enjoyed it. It would be a dream to be a screenwriter, to write a film.

This year, I set a goal for myself to watch 50 different films. I did this because I did not watch much at all previously, and unfortunately that still follows. As the end of the year is nearly upon us, I still have 17 more to watch. I am super picky when it comes to what I watch so sometimes at night I will spend hours searching for something to watch then eventually give up and go to bed. However, when I do find a film to watch and I end up thoroughly enjoying it, it is truly an amazing feeling. It also serves as great inspiration for writing, which I have been doing a lot more recently as well. I especially like movies that really make you think, and interpretations are very fun to make or to hear from others. Soundtracks also add so much to a movie as well. When a film has great music it just makes the movie so much better. Sometimes just a simply well crafted movie all around is breathtaking.

A movie I watched recently is “Pride & Prejudice”. I watched it for the first time two days ago, which may be crazy to say since it is quite popular. The truth is I have been avoiding it for the longest time because I am not particularly fond of the romance genre. For many reasons, for instance, sometimes the characters in these types of films are irritating even though they are supposed to be likeable. Regardless, I decided to watch it and was not disappointed at all. The soundtrack, to start off, is amazing. Each piano piece is so wonderfully crafted and beautiful. The scenery of the film is beautiful as well; long green fields or articulate homes and palaces. There was no character to necessarily hate, which was great for me specifically as I felt happy the whole time watching the film, which is a really nice experience. The two main characters, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy were very similar in ways, such as their ability to bicker. They would go back and forth in a way that was kind of funny at times, like when she would call him out for being prideful. Lastly, the story was very well written and engaging. I cannot wait to read the actual book by Jane Austen so I can appreciate it more.

Films are such a beautiful form of art, and as someone who really adores art, I should be watching more than I have. To be honest, I do wish I had taken at least one film course in my first year of university, however, this is only my first year, so I do not have to be completely settled with my choices yet. Maybe I will pursue my love for writing into something film related in the future, even if it is just for fun. Regardless, I will always have an appreciation for the art, and I plan to watch many more films in the future to further expand my film knowledge.
