Soulful Retreat

Ladies, when was the last time you allowed someone else to take care of you? Cook you healthy and delicious meals, provide beautifully presented snacks, do the dishes, or leave you beautiful gifts on your pillow.

Last weekend I was blessed to be invited to such an event as both presenter and guest at a Soulcation at the lovely Anchorage House and Cottages in Hubbards. This event is operated by two amazing women, Chelsey and Michelle under the full name of “Soulcation Wellness Retreats.” You can find their business page on Facebook to learn a bit more about the retreats they offer. The giftbag on my pillow contained items provided by “Wixies” in Windsor, and I was excited to find a journal the owner Allison had engraved with my name, she also makes lovely jewelry. The weekend provided opportunities to be yourself, try new experiences and best of all, meet other women who are in need of a vacation for the soul.

I know Michelle and was honoured to be invited to do a modified version of my own workshop “Just Words.” As plans came together, I knew one of my favourite NS authors had also been invited, Lesley Crewe. Many of us had been inspired by Crewe and her book Spoon Stealers, and it was this book that inspired me to do workshops.

The women I met seemed familiar, yet I knew we had never met. Some knew each other, though not well, but we all seemed as if we had always been acquaintances and this was a reunion. I have never experienced that as such a large level. When I met Chelsey and her little daughter, I was drawn into her friendliness. I was warmly welcomed, as was my kitten McGonagall who I could not leave behind. He became quite popular with the ladies and did not want to leave on Sunday.

Our welcoming circle was exactly that. We could speak or choose to pass the talking stick, and it was a wonderful experience to get to know each other. We started our next day with an amazing breakfast that we could choose to have delivered to your room or to the table downstairs, then we had a lovely and informal chat with Lesley, who shared her experiences in writing. It was a delight for me to listen to Lesley again, and we were given intel on her new book coming out later this year.

Lesley Crewe is, as they say “a hard act to follow” but I did so with my own workshop. The whole weekend seemed to be about telling our own stories, their value and what we leave behind. Every story is unique, and written for you by you, but future generations may enjoy reading about how life was. I was inspired to do more of these mini workshops in the future. After another fantastic meal prepared and served to us, our final event Saturday evening was a crystal bowl sound session with Witney from “Be the Change Health and Wellness,” a new wellness centre, recently opened in New Minas. It was a great experience and even McGonagall wanted to join; he wanted to play the bowls.

You could choose to participate or not. There were no time restrictions and we could do whatever the heck we wanted without apology. Sunday morning, another breakfast and goodbye circle. How wonderful to know we could attend something so well planned, so special right here in NS at wonderful venues.
