People's Choice Awards 2024 WINNERS

by Angela Sanford

Seems it matters not what the best of intentions may be, there are often naysayers to come out of the woodwork.  The People’s Choice Awards were meant to be a celebration of the great community, geographically and by membership, that we enjoy daily and, hopefully, do not take for granted.

Nominations came from across the region, starting just moments after the “contest” was announced.  Most recently, the votes were cast across social media, the online form, by postal mail, text, and even dropped off at the business door.  This interest leads me to believe, perhaps naively, that people were enthusiastic about this activity – much like I’ve witnessed when similar “contests” have been run in a similar fashion via a Halifax media outlet.

However, on the other hand, the High Tides Bulletin, expressly myself, owes a sincere apology to any community member who was upset by the ongoing discussions surrounding this activity.  It was not meant in any harm and High Tides Bulletin (or myself) generated any of the nominations. Each nomination was offered by a community member who sought to honour the nominee and give credit where credit is due.

Whereas acknowledgement of the concern was not brought forth until the most recent issue of the bulletin had been published and distribution begun, the retraction of the identified nominations could not be announced to the general population in the distribution area.  To satisfy the request to no longer be recognized, the nominations have been withdrawn and votes retracted in the respective categories.
