I recently attended the graduation ceremony at Hants North Rural High in Kennetcook. It was an interesting ceremony that incorporated many of what I call “the old values”” into the modern philosophy of today’s ever-changing world.

This was particularly evident in the advice given to those about to enter the workforce soon after graduation and to those who would seek further education before doing so.
Maitland Councillor, Keith Rhyno, told them to set their goals to do the best job they can whatever they undertake in life, be it a ditch digger or a doctor. Doing their best, he said, develops strong character and defines who they become. He cautioned them that they need to build relationships if they are going to become successful as relationships are needed to accomplish what you cannot do alone.
I have to say what pleased me most with Councillor Rhyno’s speech was when he said that no matter where you go in this world be proud of where you came from and the school Hants North Rural High. Because, he said “We may be small compared to the big world, but we are mighty.”
After this, the prompter cut him off but there are so many good values found in his short message I hope it will stay with the students.
Hants North has produced some great students who have gone on to change the world for the better. As we evolve into virtual learning the opportunities are even greater for them.
